Beginning Runners – Running after the Big Race

by on

I ran a marathon on Sunday and spent Monday and Tuesday going downstairs backwards.  As such, I figured I wouldn’t be running for several more days, but to my surprise, I have recovered rather quickly and was ready for a four mile run this evening.

On my drive home from work, on South West Oakland County’s dirt roads, I reminisced about the long training runs though this area and was psyched to run.  It is funny, you wouldn’t think I would be all that excited to run after my recent 26.2 mile journey, but there I was in the car, just aching to get moving.

Once I got home I jumped into some running clothes and hit the road.  At first my legs were wobbly, somewhat tired, but after a half mile they warmed up and my quads and hamstrings’ complaints ceased.  I was careful to hold it back, I wanted to run slower than my easy pace.  I didn’t want to injure myself.

I was a cool and windy fall evening.  Its surprising how quickly the leaves have turned.  Oak leaves completely covered some of the yards I ran by.  Also, it is getting darker sooner.  By the end of my run, I had to turn on my blinky light.

I ended up running a 10:58 pace for 4.5 miles.  It was relaxing and I was glad to get back in the saddle.  My next step is to figure out Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot training plan.

In the mean time I’m going to run a couple of easy runs and relax.
